This is a ONE-TIME announcement going to subscribers of the 964 mailing
list (Field Effects concert series). As always, if you'd like to be
removed from this list, just let me know! -- aaron
---- [ One-time information about other lists of interest ] ---
Hi everyone,
This is Aaron Ximm from 964 Natoma. I wanted to take a one-time indulgence
to mention a few mailing lists you might like to know about if you're a
fan of the shows I host at 964. Don't worry, I won't get in the habit.
(I might mention that as the next show I'm curating at 964 will probably
not be until mid- or late April, there is all the more reason you may have
to get your earful from one of these fine offerings!)
Thanks by the way to everyone who came out on Friday to Field Effects 18
with Michael Northam and Carl Stone! I hope to see you again soon.
--- JIFFY-SCUTTLER at the Rx Gallery ---
First off, a new monthly series is starting up in San Francisco devoted to
sound art that overlaps and compliments that we host at 964. The new
series, called Jiffy-Scuttler (with kudos to Philip K. Dick for the name
apparently), will be held at the Rx Gallery in downtown San Francisco on
the last Friday of every month. The gallery:
http://www.rxgallery.com
The show will be curated on a revolving basis by Field Effects alumni Sean
Rooney and Lance Grabmiller, and local experimental-electronic stars
Blevin Blectum and J Lesser. (Wow!)
The first show in the series will be *this* Friday, January 30, featuring
two acts that have graced Field Effects in recent months, Carl Stone, and
the all-star collective RAJAR. Hope to see you there!
If you'd like to be added to the Jiffy-Scuttler list, write directly to:

--- ZOE KEATING presents at 964 NATOMA ---
Other events at 964 Natoma: as long as I'm sending this out, I thought it
might be a good idea to let you know that my housemate, Zoe Keating, loop
cellist extra-ordinaire, ALSO hosts shows at our space.
It's fair to contrast them with the Field Effects series by saying that
while the ambiance equally emphasizes comfort, chill, and "horizontal
listening," she tends to curate live bands, along the lines of Tarantel
and Charles Atlas -- both projects she's been involved with. Groovy,
floaty, pastel, spacious, drifting, hypnotic, occasionally melancholy --
you get the idea.
If you'd like to be on her mailing list to know when she's hosting events,
you can sign up here:

--- MATT DAVIGNON presents ---
Field Effect cofounder, curator, and alumnus Matt Davignon is regularly
curating shows at a variety of venues, including San Francisco's venerable
home for improvised and experimental music, the Luggage Store:
http://www.luggagestoregallery.org
If you'd like to find out about the shows he's curating or performing
in, you should write to get on his mailing list to:
mattdavignon@hotmail.com
Recent hits have included the Found Objects festivals, Soundshift Oakland
and Big Sur, and a night pairing hip hop MCs with improvised experimental
musicians...
--- other fine SF Bay esoteric music options ---
A series of fine events is being hosted at the Recombinant Media
Labs, featuring their Surround Control System one-of-a-kind full
immersion multichannel glory. I believe they keep an updated
listing here:
http://www.asphodel.com/doc/live.html
But you might also want to sign up for their newsletter:
http://www.asphodel.com/doc/newsletter.html
Recent acts have included the likes of Francisco Lopez, Daniel Menche,
Kit Clayton, Monolake... all in an intimate environment(!).
If this isn't enough, there are also underground sound events listings
from 23five Incorporated, San Francisco's groundbreaking sound arts
advocacy organization. You can sign up for their list here:
http://kumr.lns.com/mailman/listinfo/23five-announce
Next up the 23five calendar: the 7th Annual Activating the Medium
Festival, next Friday and Saturday at SomArts! Details here (you need to
allow popups):
http://www.23five.org/
And in a more academic vein, regular postings to the Otherminds forum,
connected to the annual Otherminds festival. You can sign up for that list
here:
http://www.otherminds.org/shtml/Newsletters.shtml
(see also: http://www.otherminds.org)
Improvised music fans are probably aware of the Transbay Creative
Music Calendar:
http://www.bayimproviser.com/calendar.asp
which tends to emphasize improvised music in what the unwashed (such as
myself) might inaccurately summarize as 'the free jazz tradition.'
And finally, for those who aren't already deluged by it, no such
listing would be complete without plugging the one-stop-shop for your
countercultural and artistic lifestyle, the Squid List:

Thanks for your patience, and I promise, I won't be making a habit of
this sort of thing... it's just nice to get the word out there every
once in a blue moon. You know, to keep the community knitted. RIP 7hz.
Wishing you all a fortuitous and colorful year of the monkey,
aaron
