May 16, 2002:
Representative Nick Lampson (D-Tx) introduced a bill in the U.S. House of Representatives calling on NASA to carry out an increased program of human space exploration in the coming decades, leading to missions to the Moon and Mars. In the bill, Rep. Lampson argues that "America's human space flight program is adrift, with no clear vision or commitment to any goals after the completion of the International Space Station."
