Paul "call me a cynic" M ---- Published on Wednesday, December 12, 2001 by Reuters FBI Confirms 'Magic Lantern' Project Exists by Elinor Mills Abreu SAN FRANCISCO - An FBI spokesman confirmed on Wednesday that the U.S. government is working on a controversial Internet spying technology, code-named ``Magic Lantern'', which could be used to eavesdrop on computer communications by suspected criminals. ``It is a workbench project'' that has not yet been deployed, said FBI spokesman Paul Bresson. ``We can't discuss it because it's under development.'' The FBI has already acknowledged that it uses software that records keystrokes typed into a computer to obtain passwords that can be used to read encrypted e-mail and other documents as part of criminal investigations. ---- From kathrynaaker@hotmail.com Fri Dec 28 04:36:15 2001 From: kathrynaaker@hotmail.com (kathryn aaker) Date: Thu, 27 Dec 2001 20:36:15 -0800 Subject: [Squishy] sufi dancing Message-ID: hey guys... my good friend ammon sent out this info for a sufi dance and party that his father is doing... rachel and i went to a sufi dance at integral yoga and really enjoyed it, and knowing ammon and his family, this will be a truly amazing and really fun experience. i'm unfortunately in los angeles at the moment, but hopefully some of you can make it to this event... hope everyone had some great holiday- i need a holiday from my holiday. looking forward to getting my groove on at new years! if i don't see some of you before then, much love and see you in 2002! :-) xxxxx kathryn -- This coming Friday December 28th will be a very special event that is not to be missed. My dad Shabda and I will be collaborating in a night of dance and celebration.  Here's some of the info from my previous email: The eveing will begin with Sufi dances. Here's a definition I pulled from the web: "The Dances are simple, meditative, joyous, multi-cultural, circle dances that use sacred phrases, chants, music, and movements from the many traditions of the earth to touch the spiritual essence within ourselves and others. Based on the work begun in the late 60's by Murshid Samuel L. Lewis, they promote peace and integration within individuals and groups worldwide. There are no performers nor audience - new arrivals and old hands form the circle together." Following (possibly overlapping) we'll merge into freeform energized dance with myself djing variations of Eastern, African, Latin and other world rhythms. A personal note about Sufism and Sufi Dancing. Sufism is the mystic tradition of Islam and encompasses the real beauty of that culture. Sufism is a philosophy and an open book for exploring and experiencing life. Don't be discouraged if "religious" or "spiritual" happenings turn you off - Sufi dancing is not about dogma or zoolatry - it's about getting down having fun. Also not mentioned above - there are various musicians playing in the dances who lead the tempo and energy of the dances (kinda like a dj). If you'd like to learn more about Sufism, try to arrive at 8pm - Shabda will spend some time talking about the history and meaning of the tradition and dances. Michael Lazar (of Rhythm Society fame) will be creating divine visuals for us to bliss out to =) The event will take place at 7th Heaven Yoga in Berkeley. The space is warm and comfy with vast hardwood floors to roll around on. We'll also have chai and some snacks to keep you energized. 7th Heaven Yoga Center / 2820 7th Street, Berkeley 510-665-4300 Donation $10 - however no one will be turned away! I hope to see you there! much love, [ammon] :. 36 varda landing sausalito ca 94965 www.qaswa.com h. 415.3312117 c. 415.7302685 .: _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com
