I headed out to Carmel-by-the-Sea beach and was delayed by a cop busting
me for rolling a stop sign (at 2:30am; Carmel is *dead* around 9pm,
ffs). I was let off with a warning (he didn't even flinch at my Texas
Oct '00 tags) & we got chatting though and he said don't bother, go
further south which I did, belted, ahem, proceeded at a steady pace down
Hwy1 -- amazing view. The sky was a big difference even just from
Monterey -- stars were like sand paper granules rather than a few
hundred of the brighter specks. I'd say the comets were coming in around
one or just less than one a second for about the half hour I was
watching until my body temperature threatened my continued existence.
The occasional meteor making a huge streak across the skyline that took
a few seconds to fade; you could hear people yelping all over the city.
Great show!
