Hey, folks,
This shin-dig is being put on by a very, very cool co-worker of mine.
There will be real dancing and real music with a Burning Man type of
chaos, surreality and fun. I hope to see you there! Anyone up for dinner
at the Ramp or Kelly's beforehand?
-Nancy

ChaoticArtCircus

----> Event Description <------------------------------------------------
ChaoticArtCircus, an original rock drama, debuts in San Francisco October
5th at Caf=E9 Cocomo. The live production features the talents of more than
30 performance artists, including composers, musicians, dancers,
illustrators, poets, vocal artists, robotic technicians, stilt walkers,
puppeteers, magicians, divas, pyrotechnicians, and aromatherapists.
ChaoticArtCircus creator and composer Lindsey Boullt wrote the original
score and explained that the performance is =93an artistic rendition of=
first
contact =AD the initial meeting of human and alien civilizations.
=93The ChaoticArtCircus was created to accomplish several things,=94 Boullt
continued. =93First, it=92s strong music and it works toward the=
rejuvenation
of the San Francisco art scene by involving many different types of serious
local artists. Second, it=92s meant to bring into relief the challenges and
possibilities we all see every day relating to differences in culture,
nationality, color, ideology, religion, sex, and race. On top of all this,
the show is pure art; pure expression. It=92s really great to be bringing=
all
of these artists together simply for art=92s sake.=94
The score, featuring breakneck guitar tirades, moving ballads, rock
anthems, and techno soundscapes, lays the foundation for the live show. The
band members, some internationally acclaimed, turn the score, sculpting the
story into fantastic shapes. A menagerie of dancers, (as in butoh, belly,
modern, fire, and even actual robots), accessories to this dramatization,
are presided over by an omni-present diva.
Creative director Julnar Rizk indicated that the project has been met with
enthusiasm from San Francisco-based artists. "Lindsey has written music
that is visually stimulating. Many of the performance and choreographic
ideas proposed by the participating artists have been tremendous.
=93What will also be fascinating about this production,=94 Rizk continued,=
=93is
how each artist will interpret this concept of =91First Contact.=92 Some are
taking it quite literally and some will treat it as a metaphor. This isn't
just about extra-terrestrials. =93First Contact=94 happens when two cultures
meet, when two lovers touch, when a baby is born."
The show has also attracted well-respected lighting and sound
professionals, as well as arts patrons, from around the Bay Area.
=93Virtually everyone we=92ve approached about being involved with the=
show,=94
said producer Joe Gledhill, =93 has said they see ChaoticArtCircus=92
high-energy blending of artistic styles as fertile ground for the type of
collaborative expression that lasts well after the event. This show is
meant to build bridges =85 between the artists and the audience and between
the artists themselves.=94
