Photgraph of grapes

We drove from McLaren Vale to Gawler planning to spend some time in the Barossa Valley.

As one drives through the valley, two wineries create powerful but quite different images.

Orlando is organised. Visitors this way only. Staff carpark. Trade deliveries around there. Administration rules.

Seppeltsfield, despite the Mausoleum and the Imperial avenue of giant palm trees, is industrial. Loading bays here. Weighbridges there. Tanks everywhere. Lots of very big sheds filled, one imagines, with pumps, and plumbing, and stainless steel vats and attendants in white coats.

There are many wineries in the valley and most of them are small. We called in at Rockford's. As you go in through the gate you see wooden vats and presses and such; a tiny cellar door sales room; plenty of expert attention from the staff - very nice.

Onwards along the Tourist Drive 4. Reached Nuriootpa and the caravan park only minutes before my spring would have completely run down.

And so to bed.

Tue 10th

Today was a housekeeping day, shopping, laundry, updating the diary, resting, eating, and sleeping.

Back on the wallaby tomorrow.
