We drove on up the coast to Orbost on the Snowy River and on the Marlo at the river's mouth.

My geography isn't good enough to credit that the Snowy River made famous by Banjo Patterson and the Snowy Mountains Authority did have to reach the sea somewhere and that somewhere was on the East Gippsland coast.

As we had lunch overlooking the lake at the river's mouth, we watched an Australian Kestrel hunting just below us and a Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoo screeching overhead. On the mud flats among the gulls and plovers, we saw Pied Oystercatchers and Bar-tailed Godwits foraging for their lunch.

We stopped overnight on the banks of the Snowy River in Orbost
