Whipsnade Wild Animal Park is located on a stunning 150 hectare site on the ridge above Dunstable Downs. It is run by the Zoological Society of London and houses 2,500 animals of over 100 species. The zoo relies almost entirely on visitors for its income and support.

The paid staff is assisted by 58 trained volunteers who provide commentary on the train and man the information centre and touch-tables.

The breeding program includes Bennett's Wallaby, Humboldt's Penguin, and ten of the fifteen species of crane.
