Sunday 3th

We returned to Brisbane to have lunch with Barb and Ron.

As always, a very good visit with much discussion of lots of topical issues.

We had an exposition from Ron on the subject of GM food. His view is that the debate about labelling misses the real issue which is product safety.

He makes the point that some food, such as sugar, is free of any link with the genome of the plant from which it comes and is therefore not at issue, that some food, like canola oil, already comes from genetically modified plants and have not shown obvious harmful effects, but that some species, such as tomatoes, are well known to produce wide varieties of toxins and that using artificial genetic modification on these plants is extremely risky.

He agreed with me that a rational testing regime is necessary if we are not to create more "scientific" disasters

Monday 14th

We had arranged to picnic with Sarah, Ian and the kids at Bunya Forest Park. The weather was good and we had a pleasant few hours with a barbecue lunch and lots of birds top watch.

We had dinner with them at Patricks Road and said our farewells.
