We left Charleville heading for Augathella 70 km to the north. Augathella was shut (being Sunday in rural Queensland) so we stopped there for morning tea and headed onwards.

On the way to Tambo we passed over the highest point on the Queensland main road system, 500 m (1600 feet) above sea level according to my altimeter. We are at the watershed between the northwest corner of the Murray darling system and the Channel Country that contains the rivers that drain into Lake Eyre.

We sighted lots of wildlife, many many Emu, several Brolgas, a couple of Black Kites and a wallaby of some unidentified kind.

There is much road kill out here. Kangaroos sometimes every few metres, bush pigs, and the occasional Emu, all of which can do harm to your vehicle if you are the one to get them. Happily the hours we drive (10 am to 3 pm) make it vanishingly unlikely that we will join that particular fraternity.

The caravan park in Tambo is pretty basic but backs onto the showground which was having a polocrosse weekend. As it happened, the last game finished just as we arrived.

The iBook has lost its USB port so I can't print, backup or upload pictures from the DC240. What a bummer. There is an Apple Centre in Mount Isa so I'll put it in for repair there and have is sent to Alice Springs.
