We finally escaped from Mount Isa. We plan to arrive in the Alice on Monday morning so we must cover 1000 km (600 miles) in 6 days!.

The road to Camooweal is reputed to be very bad - the worst in Australia or some such.

We found it quite OK. There are a number of stretches of 5 m (16 ft) bitumen each about 15 km (10 miles) in length. As the traffic was light we rarely had to take to the gravel. When we did it was no drama. We reached Camooweal in time for lunch.

The others travelling today said they'd see us in Camooweal. As they had left before us, we expected to see them as we arrived. There was no sign of anyone so, when we had finished lunch, we pressed on to the next rest area at Avon Downs inside the Northern Territory. There was no-one there either so we stopped overnight opposite the Police Station and under the No Camping sign all by ourselves

As the sun is setting, in the paddock outside the window are two mares, their two foals and a young heifer.
