We needed to revisit the east bank of Lake Albacutya to get a fix on one of the sites in 'the book" which had been marked on the west bank but which is in fact on the east bank. I found that there is a 4WD track straight across the lake to Yaapeet Beach so we headed off in the Little Motley for a little adventure.

The Terios behave remarkably well even on tracks with deep ruts and in deep sand.

As we were driving along a narrow sandy track looking for the missing camp site, we came upon a mob of Grey Kangaroos. For some reason they decided to escape from us by running in the same direction as us at much the same speed. The mob consisted of perhaps thirty animals from very large mature adults perhaps 1800 mm (6 ft) tall to joeys perhaps only 600 mm (2 ft) tall. They all travelled at the same speed which meant that the joeys were really travelling fast for their size and the adults seemed stop every so often to check that the joeys were OK. We managed to avoid running over any of them even though they crossed from one side of the track to the other many times and with little warning. We became part of the mob and communed with these animals for maybe 15 minutes. It was a quite unusual experience compared with the more common interaction with animals totally accustomed to humans in wildlife parks or distant sighting as we drive along the bitumen. We felt that he Little Motley had really earned its keep.

After we had documented the missing camp sites, we returned to the Motley, had some tea and set off to the south to do more site surveys.

By 3 o'clock I had had enough and the weather looked like breaking so we settle in to a little council caravan park in a place called Jeparit which nestles on the banks of the Wimmera River.
