Monday 15th

Another nice day.

In the morning I mowed a quarter of the back paddock and in the afternoon I built the next kitchen drawer cabinet. After all this work I thought I'd veg out. I had to go to the Motley to get the modem to connect and I realised that I hadn't cleaned up the glass fragments from the window that I broke. I cleaned it up and fitted a jury rig a cover to keep the rain out.

Having cooked curry and custard yesterday, I didn't have to do much cooking which was a bonus.

Tuesday 16th

I had rung the glazier to get the window in the Motley repaired. He came just after nine and said he would order a suitable piece of glass which would probably take a couple of weeks to come. We will be away for eleven days from next Saturday so it should be here when we get back.

I tried the new hedge shears which worked remarkably well though the job will take some time to complete.

I got back to mowing the back paddock. The mower failed before I got my half hour done. I had to wait until it cooled down before I could investigate what had gone wrong. The blade assembly was no longer fixed to the shaft so no mowing was happening. I struggled to get the blade assembly off the shaft and found that the bolt had a damaged thread. I found no evidence of a key in the keyway which explained why the blades were not turning. I went to the hardware store and they advised me to make a claim under warranty on the manufacturer. The warranty card suggested that using the company website would be the quickest way to get attention. The result of the claim was an instruction to pack the faulty unit in its original packaging for return to the manufacturer or to use the packaging the new unit will be delivered in to pack the old unit in for return. I await developments. I suppose they will tell me what they propose to do before they do anything.

All this took up most of the day so no more work got done on the kitchen.

Wednesday 17th

With no lawnmower to give me my daily exercise, I got out the hedge shears before breakfast and finished the hedge clipping. It isn't as good as if I had used a motorised hedge clipper but it looks OK and Elsie May, our next door neighbour, will be pleased when she gets back from her trip. I wasn't able to move all the clippings but I guess that will be tomorrow mornings job. I plan to buy a mulcher and a compost bin to help develop a vegetable garden.

I had an appointment with the doctor to get the results of the Holter monitor test done last week. The average pulse rate recorded was 50 to 70 beats per minute which didn't cause the doctor any apparent concern. She did ask if I had been an athlete when young but I assured her that I had never been a marathon runner. She said there was a little evidence of some ischaemia which needed follow up with a stress test. I said I'd organise an appointment when we get back from the next trip. The earliest appointment I could get was late November but I don't have a problem with that.

I did a few small jobs but found myself sleeping in front of the afternoon TV.

Thursday 18th

I got out in the cool of the morning to pick up all the hedge clippings and put them on our scrap heap. I had to take a break part way through the job but it got finished and the place now looks "cared for".

I filled the Motley fresh water tanks and replaced the water in the potable water jerrycans.

In the evening we had a Lions Ladies Night because the District Governor was visiting. We had a very pleasant dinner and lots of chats. I continued my tradition of reciting poetry and once again got some laughs.

Friday 19th

I was up early but there were no early morning exercise jobs to do so I did a bit of futzing instead. Sadly the wireless modem was not getting a signal so I'll have to connect from the Motley where the antenna is much better. I have had a problem with the new desktop antenna and have had no reply to my request to Maxon for warranty attention. I have had an acknowledgement of my claim on GMC concerning the lawnmower but they haven't responded with any action. This has been a week to test the warranty performance of some businesses.

I moved the Motley to the front and started to load up sometime after ten. I got it finished at about half past three which was pretty good going. We finished the curry and had a quiet evening watching TV.
