Thursday 7th

Jean had arranged to do scrapbooking with Sarah so we went early to Patricks Rd.

I had a call from the optician who said the glasses were ready so went to Brookside to pick them up. They are much better than the original ones and now meet my every expectation.

I also had a call from the camera shop to say that Sarah's camera repair was ready so I went to Ashgrove to pick it up. It is pretty much like new.

I also stripped the key parts out of the old dishwasher. They will provide suitable spares for the new old dishwasher and may obviate an expensive repair some time in the future. I also found the schematic and timing diagram tucked away inside the machine. While there is presumably on in the new old machine, I asked Sarah to tuck it away carefully so that the next time I need to diagnose a problem, I will have what I need to do the job.

Because I needed to get to Sherwood Forest so that Robin Wood and I can select suitable batteries to replace the old ones.

We left Petrie at 3.30 pm so I decided to use the motorway despite the toll fees. We arrived at Sherwood Forest at 5pm. Many people had turned up since we were last here. so in addition to Robin and Keryn Wood, Charlie and Val Dawson, and Ross and Sue Rand, there were Warren and Bev Wade, Kevin Boyd and Anita Williams, Brian and Pat Galland, and Colin and Linda who we had not met before. Happy hour was a sizeable circle which didn't break up until dark.

Friday 8th

I woke up feeling particularly stiff and achy. We went in to town to shop and to do the chapter banking and got back in time for lunch.

We veged out in the afternoon and woke up in time for afternoon tea. At happy hour I ordered four new house batteries which will be delivered next week sometime.

Saturday 9th

We, all twenty something of us, went to dinner at the Beaudesert RSL to celebrate Keryn's birthday. It was a good night and the food was excellent. We left early as most of them went to play the pokies.

Sunday 10th

We had a pretty lazy day though, in a burst of enthusiasm, I cleaned the flyscreens before breakfast.

In the evening, we had a barbecue and campfire. On the way back to the Motley, I saw a frog and drew it to the attention of Keryn who had said that they had no frogs. Robin came over to look, said it was a cane toad and trod on it! He claims that, being a Queenslander born and bred, he can tell a cane toad when he sees one. I later went out with the torch and found a real cane toad and another frog of the same species. I was unable to identify it with certainty from but I'm sure it was a frog and not a cane toad. It had a definite spotted pattern on its back with a light stripe right down the middle of its back and it had stripes on its hind legs. I believe it was a Spotted Grass Frog, a bit larger than the ones I saw here in December but it has all the right characteristics.

Monday 11th

Today is our wedding anniversary. I had bought a card and Jean's ruby ring, which theoretically celebrate last years anniversary, is only a few weeks old.

At afternoon tea we laid on a rum and raisin mud cake on a table decorated with flowers.

The new batteries were delivered and, with some help from Robin Wood, I devised the arrangement I need. Robin made up the connecting cables I will need. I discovered that I had mis-measured the existing battery tray and will need to modify it tomorrow before we install the new batteries.

We had congratulatory telephone calls from Rachel and from Alain during the afternoon.

Tuesday 12th

I spent the best part of the day fitting the new batteries.

Jean was supposed to be going with Keryn and others to finalise the design and arrangements for the new chapter jackets but no-one remembered to pick her up so she spent the day watching me at work.

The new design seems really good. The jacket is bottle green with black and yellow trim and with the Highway Wanderers logo on the left front. There is also a polo shirt which is halved black and green with yellow trim and the logo on the left front. The new designs will differentiate us from the other chapters who all have single colour shirts.

The jacket will cost $70 and the shirt will cost $30 and the minimum order of each is 30 of each so we will have to accumulate orders before we can have them made. The plan is to take orders at each rally when there are sufficient people around to make up the numbers. The chapter will not use its funds buy these in and will not mark them up.

There is also a chapter stubby holder in green, black and yellow with the logo on it which will cost the chapter $4.50 each in quantities of 100. The plan is to buy them in and resell them for $6 to make a something for the chapter funds.
