It dawned bright and early. We needed to get to Ashby sometime soon. We decided to take it easy so we left the mini rally a day early.

We had had a much more enjoyable time here than the first happy hour had augured because we were able to catch up with people we had not seen for some time. Of course, the afternoon wine supping helped a bit.

However, as always after an extended stint with lots of people, we are happy to be off on the road by ourselves for a while.

We headed south through "doric" Warwick and then east to Woodenbong.

The journey was uneventful until we passed Legume. The road from Legume to Woodenbong has to be the worst road in Australia. It is 44 km (25 miles) long and it took over an hour. Some stretches were taken at 20 kph (12 mph) to reduce the road shock to a bearable level. As soon as we reached Woodenbong and parked in the town campground, we both took to bed to sleep off the effects of the last hour.

Woodenbong is a nice place and with a well deserved reputation for being friendly to travellers, providing a pleasant place to stop and rest a while. Sadly we were in no condition to appreciate it.
