Driving through Ballina, we saw a Pheasant Coucal fly down into the grass verge not three metres away from us. Another new species to add to the growing list.

We decided to slow the progress down so we took off on a scenic drive to Kingscliff. The scenery was anything but scenic and Kingscliff's own tourist drive was restricted to vehicles under 5 tonnes. Nevertheless we found a car park by the mouth of the river where we stopped for lunch and a walk.

We met a local fisherman who had three really good sized fish. It is clear that the fish stocks have not been depleted here nearly as much as around Sydney.
