On the road at crack of dawn, well 9.30 am which feels like crack of dawn to us.

The road into Gunnedah has clearly been recently flooded but the damage was much less than I had imagined. We were able to avoid virtually all the potholes on the two or three 1 kilometre stretches which were badly affected.

There is still a lot of water about as there has been since we left Uralla. The recent floods have been very extensive and all the rivers on both sides of the Great Divining Range are still well up having been up to or over their banks.

We stopped at Coonabarabran so that we could visit the Siding Springs Observatory, Skywatch Day and Night Observatory (a local tourist feature in Coonabarabran intended to make up for the lack of seeing real stars through real telescopes at Siding Springs), the Pilliga Nature Reserve, and the Warrumbungle National Park.
