Leaving Lake Conjola and needing fuel, we went to Sussex Inlet which Jean remembered as "on the mud flats".

This time the tide was in so it was "on the water" but not much better for it.

We decided to look at Swan Lake but there were no swans so we didn't stop. The road we were on suddenly turned into an unsealed road through the National Park so we took to the gravel for an hour or so.

We investigated the other side of St Georges Basin, taking lunch on the shore of the lake at the old RAAF flying boat launching ramp in the town which takes its name from the lake.

We found ourselves heading into the Booderee National Park on the southern shore of Jervis Bay and as Jean seemed to recall a story of kangaroo on the beach at Green Patch, we decided to overnight there.

I realised that I had run the house batteries down during the day and there was no power at the camping ground so we too a 10 kilometre (6 mile) drive down a dirt road which lead only to private properties including one called, mysteriously, Christians Minde. We assumed that it was a secret location for strange rituals which they couldn't let anybody see. We later discovered that it was a property called Minde owned originally by somebody called Christian.

The batteries having been charged, we set up in the camping ground and walked the beach. No kangaroos. In fact not much of anything except some Crested Tern fishing in the bay.

On the path back to the camping ground we tripped over a couple of Eastern Grey Kangaroos which behaved as if they owned the place, which I suppose they did.

The park is now run by the local aboriginal community with help from the National Parks and Wildlife. All the rangers we met were aboriginal and all were very pleasant. We had a good stay.
