Six motorhomes set off on safari headed for Townsville via Emerald and Charters Towers.

This night we reached Gayndah, a little, struggling country town which relies on citrus fruit for its survival. The retailers were looking forward to the arrival of the fruit-pickers which represents their high season. They all appreciated our contribution to the town economy.

The council rest area was pretty well full with other motorhomes on the way to Townsville but we found the Lions Park which was much closer to town. In the morning, the President of the Lions Club turned up with his wife and we had morning tea with them. He was very happy that we were putting their park to good use and told us of their plans to add barbecue and toilet facilities during the year. It makes a nice change to be warmly welcomed in a town rather than moved on.
