The Danish couple we met recently had told us that they had seen many birds at Innot Hot Springs so we set off for there.

Ravenshoe has a great Visitor Centre with a most charming and helpful attendant and with many very interesting displays. The Army had used this area during WW2 to train troops before sending them into action against the Japanese in New Guinea and elsewhere. Up to 100,000 men were on the tableland at one time. Dad had spent some time somewhere up here before going to Bouganville in 1943.

We visited the Millstream Falls which is said to be the widest waterfall in Australia.

We drove on to Innot Hot Springs expecting anything but what we found. The hot spring, apart from feeding a commercial spa in a nearby motel, warms one or two very small, shallow pools in a very small creek.

We did see some interesting birds including Red-winged Parrot, but there was not enough to encourage us to pay caravan park fees when we had passed a perfectly good bush camping area at Archer Creek on the way here from Raveshoe.

In company with a number of motorhomes and caravans, we spent a peaceful night there.
