[Earlier Visits]
Tuesday 12th

We set off early and, because we had plenty of time, decided to visit Evans Head on the way.

The road goes through the Broadwater National Park. Even though the road is second rate, it was a joy to see the park with all its banksias and mellaleucas. Evans Head didn't impress but it might be better if one has is camped up there.

We stopped at Woodford to do a little shopping, and reached Val and Les's place by midday. We had lunch with them and a long chat, catching up on things, before we retired to the Motley for a well earned rest.

Wednesday 13th

We slept in till after nine and had a pleasant morning coffee with Val and Les.

I had been asked by the solicitor to pay his cheque into my account so that he could reconcile his trust account. The nearest Bendigo Bank is at Grafton so we took a trip to the "city".

We bought some stuff from Target, had a nice lunch in a local cafe, and filled up the Little Motley with petrol. I think we should go back to Queensland before the high cost of fuel blows the budget. The petrol cost 99.9 c/litre after the 4 c/litre discount and the price of diesel varied from 108.9 c/litre to 113.9 c/litre!.

In the evening we were entertained to dinner, cooked by Les, and by one of Val's favourite films.

Thursday 14th

I spent the day doing some necessary chores; equalising the house batteries, changing the genny engine oil, making a drawer retainer for the filing cabinet, and starting work on some wiring additions to the Motley.

Friday 15th

I did some laundry and we went to Maclean for lunch at the RSL and to do a bit of shopping.

I spent some time proof reading the text of the self-containment scheme documents.

Saturday 16th

In the evening, I cooked dinner for Val and Les using fresh fish from the Maclean Fisherman's Co-op.

Sunday 17th

Les had told me he was having some trouble with a calculus problem. When he told me what he was trying to calculate, I told him that it was really a geometry problem which might need some trigonometry. My calculus is a tad rusty. It was never my strong suit and I haven't used it in anger in 50 years so we'd have to resort to the technical bible which I carry with me. I put my mind to the problem and found an analysis which was pure geometry and a rigorous proof of the result. It made me feel decades younger to have solved the problem.

Val had admired my genealogy software so I dug out the CD-ROM and we tried to install it on her PC. The installer wouldn't run but it wasn't the same program as the one I use so it wasn't a big loss. Val's problem concerned how to call digital photos into the family tree. I did a little fiddling and showed her how to do it and she is now off and running

Monday 18th

It was very wet so we spent the day indoors.
