Sunday 10th

We slept in a bit and had an indulgence breakfast. I did some odd jobs which needed doing. One was to get at the broken sash cord on one of the dining room windows. As it happens, I can remember how to repair broken sash cords from experience early in life but when I got into the window frame, I found no sash weight. I'll have to buy one and while I might find one locally, I guess I might have to go to one of the renovators suppliers and pay top dollar for it.

I couldn't do any more painting because didn't have enough paint left to do the whole room.

Monday 11th

I bought some more paint. We were a bit worried by the colour we had selected but with only one coat, it was probably the original blue-green colour showing through so we decided to press on with the original decision.

I did some more odd jobs and gave the bedroom its second coat of paint. The colour is OK.

Tuesday 12th

I had asked our lawn mowing man to come and quote for the construction of a tank stand and he turned up while I was still in the shower. He was happy to wait a few minutes and we agreed on what needed to be done, how much he would charge, and when he could do the job.

I tried the breadmaker again. The bread still wasn't up to scratch. The instructions suggest that the results are critically dependent on the quantities of the ingredients but apparently one has to find the right quantities by trial and error.

More odd jobs and a session of gap sealing filled the afternoon.

Wednesday 13th

I spent some time marking test papers and phoning trainee inspectors.

I all but finished the gap sealing in the hall before I ran out of sealant.

Thursday 14th

More odd jobs were the order of the day.

The carpet people rang to ask if they could delay the carpet laying a few days. We agreed as this will take a bit of pressure off the painting.

Friday 15th

We visited the doctor to get the results of the blood tests.

Jean's Hba1c had gone up and the doctor prescribed another drug to work in conjunction with the other two.

My Hba1c had gone up to 7.4 and the urine test showed that my kidneys were leaking protein. I need to significantly lower my blood glucose levels so the doctor prescribed a hypoglycemic drug. My cholesterol was 4.9 which would usually be considered acceptable but the doctor reasoned that a diabetic needed to have a lower level than that so she prescribed a cholesterol lowering drug as well.

Feeling a bit under the weather, I did some light chores.

Saturday 16th

I did a bit more work on the preparation for the painting before I took some more rest.

In the evening, we went to the monthly meeting of the wine club. The wine was from the local winery and was, for the most part, very pleasant. We were sitting with a travelling couple from Victoria who have spent a little time in Barraba. We had lots in common with them since they were a Scottish/Australian couple, the Australian half of which had spent time in London, so we had lots to talk about.
