We 're "On the Road Again". It seems a bit strange after nearly four months "at home". I guess we now have a new lifestyle being sometimes travellers. It will be interesting to see how it turns out. At least we'll be experiencing motorhoming in a way which is characteristic of most members of the club. When we were full timers, we were part of a pretty small minority of members and I sometimes thought we exaggerated our place in the scheme of things.

We were very low on fuel so we stopped in Bingara. The only servo with room for the Motley was an unmanned place. The machine wouldn't let me buy more than $98 so I had to pretend to be someone else by using a different credit card so that I could fill up. We had to put 134 l in the tanks and at today's prices this cost a weeks pension. I guess we'll have to ration our travelling until the price comes down (aren't I an optimist thinking that it will come down).

I hadn't done any navigation preparation for the journey and when we got to Delungra we saw a sign to Ashford and found ourselves on a dirt road. We turned round and headed for Inverell where the bitumen road to Ashford starts. On the way we stopped at a rest area for a cup of tea. While we were sitting in the Motley, a lady from a car which had stopped beside us told us that one of the tyres on the trailer was shredded. I changed the tyre and will have to buy another wheel as we had been running on the rim for many kilometres.

We headed up the road to Ashford which had been described as "good" I found it pretty bad. I had to slow to 60 kph (35 mph) to reduce the road shock to acceptable levels.

We finally stopped at Bonshaw Weir to get GPS co-ordinates for "The Book" and decided to stay overnight. This is a fairly pri, itive camp site on the banks of the Q|Dujmeresque River which forms the border between NSW and Queensland hereaboiuts.

Both of us had a bit of kip as soon as we had parked, Jean because she had a typical first day headache, and me because I had developed some kind of upper respiratory tract infection. I hope it fixes itself as we have arranged to visit both Barb and Al while we are in Brisbane.

Jean took pity on me and cooked dinner which was very nice.
