Suncoasters Chapter Meeting

Friday 14th

The lawn mowing team from the Pine Rivers Council turned up early to put the park back in good order. I decided to leave rather than move the Motley around to let them mow our spot.

Before we left, we were entertained by a drug bust. Jean had noticed that a group who had been monopolising the barbecue area had had many visitors and had done many transactions. A couple of policemen turned up to arrest one guy who resisted and was subdued by serious threats of personal violence and was finally handcuffed. The remainder of the group apparently objected to these proceedings and were in their turn subdued by liberal use of capscin sprays but only after three more police cars and two paddy wagons arrived to assist. This little drama just illustrates the rich tapestry of life in the big city.

We shopped in Petrie and headed of up the Bruce Highway, stopping by Wild Horse Mountain for me to have breakfast which I missed earlier due to the mowing and the drama.

We reached Maleny Showground, the site for the weekend Suncoasters Chapter gathering in time for lunch. Several Highway Wanderers vehicles were already there and a number of Suncoasters, most of whom we had met previously.

Happy hour was short as most were going into town for the parade and for dinner. Both Jean and I were less that 100% so we chose to have a quiet evening in.

Saturday 15th

The morning required some work to be done to set up the hall for the dinner tonight. When that was done we went into town to buy the papers and some Xmassy things.

In the afternoon, the head ambo from Maleny did a first aid update session which was very informative. It was interesting , if alarming, to hear that they get about one call out a day in Maleney to a snake bite, Most victims survive, though a lady had died only this week. He encouraged us all to do a first aid training course.

In the evening we all assembled for Xmas dinner which was pretty good. The entertainment was a country music group, most of whom who should have been wearing L plates but the crowd seemed not to mind and danced a lot. The room grew very hot and noisy so we took refuge in the Motley.

Sunday 16th

The weather was particularly inclement with visibility down to 20 m (60ft) at times. There was test cricket on the tele so we didn't get out Motley until happy hour and we were tucked up again well before dark.

Monday 17th

Most of the others left for home this morning leaving only ourselves and the Prestons.

We drove into town to do the shopping and to have coffee and a little treat.

As we needed water. we moved the Motley to the nearest water point, filled up and plugged in.

In the afternoon we had Gwen and Artie come over for tea and happy hour. They have been motorhomers for longer the we have but only took to the road full time a couple of years ago and enjoy every place they visit with a wonderful enthusiasm.
