Thursday 17th

The trains were really noisy but seemed to stop running late in the evening. We shared the rest area with a cattle truck and the cattle were quite noisy too. We did get a good nights sleep.

We decided to spend another day at Comet so we planned to move into the Dig Tree Rest Area across the railway line. This seemed a lot bigger than I had thought but it is really only a picnic area.

We decided to go to Emerald to dump the waste water and to shop. The dump point is very badly sited as it is right outside the entrance to the Tourist Information Centre so cars park around the dump point preventing motorhomes from gaining access.

We went a couple of times round the town and eventually parked outside the big shopping Plaza.

We returned to the TIC and found that all the cars had gone so I was able to park and dump both the black water and the grey water which had accumulated since we left Gayndah because we had been camped in rest areas every night and couldn't, under the rules of the Self-containment Scheme, let the grey water go on the ground.

We stopped in a truck parking area on the outskirts of the town to have lunch and then drove to Sapphire to camp in the only large free camping area in the district.

It was bleeding hot so I fired up the generator and the airconditioner. We had a peaceful night.

Friday 18th

We decided to stay another night because Philip and Helene had said that they would be here on Saturday morning.

In the event they arrive this afternoon and we had afternoon tea and happy hour with them.
