We tried to sleep in but we were both up before half past seven after a good night's sleep. We set off towards Inglewood planning a short days driving.

I stopped in Texas to fill up the generator fuel tank and to take advantage of the local tyre shop to inflate the truck tyres. They were very kind and helpful and insisted on not charging me anything for the service

As we went through Texas and I was reminded of the family connection. My maternal grandmother, Isabella Stewart Smith the divorcee whose marriage to my grandfather caused him to be exiled from his family was born in Texas 1n 1871. I believe that her father, Thomas Whyte Smith, whose death certificate identifies him as a Grazier, ran Texas Station. He died in Tamworth in 1880 when Isabella was nine years old. Her mother, Isabella Weston, had died in 1878 in Wollongong which was the family home of the Smith family. Thomas and Isabella were married in Maitland in 1869 so presumably the connection with Texas was only for a few years.

On the way Jean noticed that the cab airconditioner wasn't working so we had to drive with the windows open to keep cool.

We planned to camp at the Coolmunda Dam but the generator wouldn't start so we went to the caravan park on the other side of the lake so we could plug into shore power and run the airconditioner to keep cool. We had lunch and settled down to a quiet afternoon.
